St. Louis Post-Dispatch columnist Tony Messenger is for soccer but questions the latest proposal to bring a Major League Soccer team to The Lou, mainly because the city's in financial disarray.
The recent proposal led by family members of St. Louis-based Enterprise Holdings car rental company would be largely privately financed, but the plan does ask for abatement of the city's long-standing ticket tax.
That may be too much to ask, Messenger writes, despite St. Louis being a soccer city deserving of an MLS expansion team.

A safe room and classroom addition at Willard Central Elementary School will be used by the music, arts and athletic programs for a district that had 4,536 students last year, according to Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education figures, but school officials say enrollment is projected to grow.
