Wish I May
Volunteer-run nonprofit Wish I May expanded into Christian County with the May 12 opening of a second office/storage space at 809 N. Main St. in Nixa. Operating from space donated by Danny Knight of Knight Heating & Air Conditioning, Wish I May collects donated new children’s toys, party paper goods, gift bags and cash to provide birthday bags to underprivileged youth, generally ages 1–15. Since Lisa Slavens started Wish I May two years ago in Springfield, she said the organization has filled over 1,200 bags for birthday celebrations. Volunteers Kimberly Burke and Angie McDonald run the new office, and Burke said they’re working with Least of These food pantry and the Christian County schools to identify children in need. Hours: by appointment. Phone: (417) 429-7230. Web: WishIMay.org
