Open for Business: Uncle Bently’s Pub and Lounge

Posted online

Uncle Bently’s Pub and Lounge
Begun in 1978, Uncle Bently’s Pub and Lounge has changed ownership. Jennifer Barr said she and husband Darryl closed Aug. 4 on the purchase of Uncle Bently’s from Jack Horton for undisclosed terms. The Barrs also own Georgia Mac’s bar and restaurant, which they debuted in 2018 at 1440 E. Republic Road. Jennifer Barr said Uncle Bently’s, 4123 S. National Ave., just south of James River Freeway, is keeping its name through the ownership change. She said the bar is a staple in the Springfield area, and preserving its name was a priority for her and Darryl. She added that they were seeking a new concept in addition to Georgia Mac’s. They met Horton at a social event and learned he wanted to retire, which set the deal in motion. The roughly 5,000-square-foot building housing Uncle Bently’s also was part of the purchase, she said. The owners have started a daily happy hour along with new drink specials. Plans also are within the next year or so to open a kitchen to serve food that would be distinct from the Southern-style Georgia Mac’s, Barr said.

Prickly Cactus Coffee
Morgan Cooley is the new owner of Prickly Cactus Coffee after purchasing the Marshfield business from Jessica Rezak. Cooley, a Marshfield resident, declined to disclose terms of the deal, which closed Aug. 1. The shop is at 1148 Spur Drive. Now a first-time business owner, Cooley said she began working part-time for the shop in February. The shop started in 2019 and moved locations within Centerview Plaza in 2021. The ownership transition deal quickly came together, Cooley said, as Rezak first mentioned her desire to sell the business in July. Cooley said she’s operating under the existing lease with landlord Robert Headley for undisclosed terms. Aside from its drink menu, which includes hot and iced coffee, mochas, lattes, frappes, smoothies and lemonade, Prickly Cactus also sells pastries and breakfast items. Cooley said the shop sources its food, which includes breakfast sandwiches, cinnamon rolls and scones, from Lisa Hardy, who owns Marshfield bakery Lisa’s Homemade Eats and Treats.

Realty One Group Grand
Two Springfield real estate brokerages joined forces on Aug. 1, said Loren Winter, broker and owner of Realty One Group Grand. He said Katie Anthony and her employees at Team Ozarks Realty combined into Realty One Group Grand, which operates as a franchise of Las Vegas-based Realty One Group. Team Ozarks previously was an independent brokerage. Winter said no money changed hands in the transaction. Anthony’s brokerage, with over 30 agents on board, is now known as Team Ozarks Group within Realty One Group Grand, which has an office at 4560 S. Campbell Ave., Ste. 120, in Shadowood Shopping Center. Winter said the entire local organization now counts some 50 real estate agents. After years of operating his own brokerage, Winter said the move frees him up to dedicate more time to agent training and realty education. The now-larger Realty One Group Grand offers residential and commercial services. He said Realty One Group Grand started in 2022, and Team Ozarks was founded in 2017.
