Carissa Greenlee opened women’s clothing and accessories store Torn Boutique on Aug. 9 at 206 E. Brick St., a block northeast of the square in Ozark. The boutique carries jeans brands such as Big Star Jeans and Mek, ranging in price between $60 and $135. The sole employee, Greenlee travels to fashion markets in Dallas once a season to purchase inventory. Apart from working in retail while studying child and family development at Missouri State University, Greenlee has no prior business experience. “It’s something that I’ve wanted to do for a long time and the opportunity came up,” Greenlee said. Initial startup costs, including a loan for the property through Assemblies of God Credit Union, were roughly $140,000. Ken Barth runs the 15,000-square-foot store with 14 employees. The Market sells common groceries, beer, liquor, wine and Amish-grown organic produce. Prior to The Market, Barth owned a Buy Rite Discount Outlet in Hollister for three years. Barth owns the building and declined to disclose his startup costs. Travis Koontz opened their family-owned cab service April 13 at 1433 E. Kearney St. All Around Cab Co. currently employs nine drivers to operate the six-car fleet. Each co-owner has two years of experience driving cabs for another Springfield company, which Bartholomew declined to name.
