Title Boxing Club
Kansas City residents Dean and Rozanne Prather brought the Title Boxing Club franchise to Springfield some 20 years after graduating from Missouri State University. The group fitness club, centered around boxing and kickboxing techniques, opened Sept. 4 in 5,000 square feet at 4560 S. Campbell Ave., Ste. 108, in the Shadowood plazaa. Under Quality Boxing Clubs LLC, the Prathers bought the Springfield franchise rights two years ago for an undisclosed amount, and they are slated to open a second in the market. The Prathers also own the rights to open three sites in Edmond, Okla., where they launched Title Boxing Club in April. Rozanne Prather said the Springfield space is outfitted with 54 heavy bag stations hanging from a ceiling grid system, and workouts include 30 minutes with eight rounds of techniques at various bags. Prather said the Springfield club, managed by Ryan Byar and Kaly Prather, employs more than a dozen trainers and sales staff. The franchise has sold the rights for 500 clubs and 112 are open, according to its website. Hours: Classes available between 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Phone: (417) 413-5013. Web: TitleBoxingClub.com

Superior Rents
Construction equipment rental company Superior Rents opened Aug. 30 in south Springfield, a month after closing its original Bolivar store. With the opening at 5617 S. Campbell Ave., co-owner Steve Wohnoutka said Superior Rents operates two stores in Springfield and a third in Joplin. Sibling owners Steve and Dan Wohnoutka invested nearly $900,000 for the 5-acre parcel and a 6,200-square-foot new building, and they brought in inventory from other stores. Superior Rents offers some 2,000 pieces of equipment for rent systemwide, from an appliance dolly for $10 a day to a 65-foot boom lift for $300 a day, Steve Wohnoutka said. Three employees run the south-side store, and Wohnoutka said 14 are employed companywide. The Wohnoutkas started Superior Rents in 2005 in Bolivar, and last year it grossed $1.6 million in revenue, marking a three-year growth rate of 65 percent.
