The Montclair Retirement CommunityDallas-based Capital Senior Living Corp. (NYSE: CSU) on Dec. 20 purchased The Montclair Retirement Community, 1000 E. Montclair St., adding a second Springfield property to its holdings of 100 retirement communities nationwide. Maryland-based Brightview Co./The Shelter Group listed The Montclair for sale in the fall, and publicly traded Capital Senior Living purchased the 158-apartment Montclair, along with a retirement community in Ohio, for $32.8 million.
Kevin Wilbur, Capital Senior Living’s regional operations manager, noted no personnel changes are planned for The Montclair’s 46 employees. The independent living facility provides packages with meals, housekeeping, transportation and activities, Wilbur said. Capital Senior Living also operates The Waterford at Iron Bridge, 1131 E. Randy Allen. Qdoba is the first tenant of the $1.5 million Campus Plaza Center at 401 S. Kimbrough Ave., the former site of a gas station, a telecommunications office and a bicycle shop. Allen said the buildings at the southwest corner of Kimbrough Avenue and Elm Street were razed and remediation work was completed before developer Morelock-Ross Builders began construction earlier this year. The 2,550-square-foot Qdoba seats 70 and employs roughly 20, giving franchisee Burrito Concepts 100 employees across its four Springfield stores and nearly 250 employees in the 13-store system. The opening has added about 100 new permanent jobs at the resort, and the hotel/spa expansion project created 400 construction jobs this year in the Tri-State region.
