Open For Business: The Jade Magnolia

Posted online

The Jade Magnolia
One Queen City event venue replaced another with the June 28 opening of The Jade Magnolia. Owner Melissa Hall said she became a first-time business owner upon launching the boutique event space at 2030 S. Stewart Ave., Ste. 108. The 1,100-square-foot venture is named after her granddaughter, she said. The venue has a 45-person seating capacity, and Hall said it can be booked for a variety of events, such as birthdays, reunions, showers and corporate gatherings. The base price is $65 per hour with a basic package starting at $200 for a three-hour rental, she said. The Jade Magnolia provides tables and chairs, along with specialty furniture such as a wicker love seat. Outside food and drink is allowed, Hall said. Startup costs were under $10,000, Hall said, noting the space formerly was occupied by Flourish, another event venue. That business, which was registered with the secretary of state’s office as Flourish A Gathering Place LLC, shuttered in May, she said. Hall signed a two-year lease for an undisclosed rate with C. Arch Bay Co.

Gold Mountain by Hugo
An inbound/outbound call center and service agency that secured a buyer in late 2025 has opened a second location in Springfield. Gold Mountain Communications LLC, which now does business as Gold Mountain by Hugo in honor of its acquisition by Hugo Inc., opened its new location at 1570 W. Battlefield Road, Ste. 120. Janell Scott, Gold Mountain’s vice president of talent and delivery, said April 15 was opening day at the 17,100-square-foot facility. Gold Mountain by Hugo signed a lease for undisclosed terms for the new space, Scott said. The company’s original, nearly 30,000-square-foot office remains operational at 1701 W. Sunshine St., Ste. K, where it employs more than 350 people. Andie Okonkwo, head of brand and community for Hugo Inc., said Gold Mountain’s Springfield growth was due to a customer service program with a new client that expanded beyond the capacity of the Sunshine Street center. The new facility, which includes training and conference space, employs 150 people with plans to expand to 250, Scott said.

Developmental Center of the Ozarks
A Springfield-based nonprofit has expanded its footprint to Christian County with a new program for adults living with developmental disabilities. Officials with Developmental Center of the Ozarks, which is headquartered at 1545 E. Pythian Ave. in Springfield, launched DCO Connects on June 1. DCO Connects is designed to offer hands-on, community-based education and activities for adults seeking a more independent lifestyle. The program is housed in 5,000 square feet at 1824 N. State Highway CC in Nixa, and DCO signed a three-year lease with R & J Legacy LLC for an undisclosed rate, said Chrissy Marsh, the nonprofit’s assistant executive director. The program is certified by the Missouri Department of Mental Health, Division of Developmental Disabilities and approved to serve up to 30 individuals. DCO officials declined to disclose startup costs for the program, but said support includes grants from CC Links and Forvis Mazars LLP, as well as contracts with DMH.
