Open for Business: The Boba House

Posted online

The Boba House
Aug. 15 was the grand opening for drink shop The Boba House at 4728 S. Campbell Ave., Ste. 100, in the Lakewood Center. Jennie Ngo said she and her fiance, Ryan Pham, became first-time business owners with the venture, which employs 10 and fills roughly 2,000 square feet. The couple owns it via The Boba House Cafe LLC, according to the Missouri secretary of state’s office. The shop’s menu features boba tea with different bases, including milk and fruit, with a variety of toppings, such as black pearl and mango jelly. Coffees and smoothies also are sold, and there is a small food menu, consisting of savory and sweet dishes, including in-house made pho and fried milk bites, which have a crunchy panko coating and are served with condensed milk and chocolate sauce. Menu prices range $3.50-$15. Ngo declined to disclose startup costs or lease terms for the venture. Farther south on Campbell Avenue, her parents, Eric and Kelly Ngo, own Shabu Hot Pot, an eatery which opened last year that her older brother, John Ngo, helps manage.

Joey’s Frozen Custard
Along with his wife, Kristen, and their daughter, Sofia, Mark Boring launched dessert eatery Joey’s Frozen Custard on June 27 off U.S. Highway 60 in Diggins. The frozen custard stand fills a portion of a 100-acre piece of property Boring owns at 137 White Rose Lane, 4 miles east of Seymour, and he notes it has been in his family for almost a century. The property also is a working farm, where the Borings raise beef cattle, quarter horses and red kangaroos. The latter served as inspiration for the name of the business, which includes frozen vanilla custard in cups and waffle cones. Joey’s Frozen Custard also serves concretes, such as the Berry Boomerang, which is custard mixed with strawberries and chocolate fudge. Additionally, the menu includes floats and sundaes. Prices range $2-$7.50. Boring said he hopes to add coffee to the menu and purchase another custard machine soon. He said he previously worked for about 14 years with Bass Pro Shops as an imagery contractor.

South Springfield License Office
A south-side Springfield license office is operational again with a new location and new management. The South Springfield License Office is open, as of Oct. 8, at 3433-D S. Campbell Ave. in the Liberty Commons Shopping Center, said Joe Daues, CEO of nonprofit Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks. BCFO Titleworks Inc., the for-profit side of BCFO, was awarded the license contract for the office by the Missouri Department of Revenue. Previously at 319 E. Battlefield Road, Ste. P, the south Springfield license office closed in May after St. Louis-area company Elle Management LLC did not renew the license. BCFO Titleworks also was recently renewed as the operator for the Republic license office. Springfield once again has three license offices with the launch of the Liberty Commons location. The contractors for the two other Springfield license offices are License Office Services LLC for the 149 Park Central Square location and CGB Holdings LLC for the 525A S. Glenstone Ave. location.
