Open for Business: The Big Slice

Posted online

The Big Slice
The newest shop for New York-style pizzeria The Big Slice LLC opened Dec. 26, 2025, in Republic at 558 E. Harrison St. Owner Levi Grant, who opened the first Big Slice in 2013 at 1450 E. Sunshine St., said startup costs were around $150,000 for the new restaurant in the Republic Town Center. He signed a five-year lease for around $2,000 per month with Jared Commercial & Management LLC. The 1,500-square-foot space formerly was occupied by a location of Lucky Cat Boba Tea and Sweets LLC, which Lucky Cat officials confirmed was shuttered. The Republic pizzeria’s opening marks the third Big Slice location Grant owns, joining the Sunshine Street shop and downtown at Big Slice Golf & Games. The business, which includes a full bar, arcade games, pinball and indoor golf simulators, originally opened in February 2024 as Bigg Time Arcade LLC but changed names later that year, Grant said. At the Republic shop, Grant said he manages roughly 12 employees, noting an expansion to the Greene County city had been in his sights for years.

The Daily Events
In a deal that closed Dec. 31, 2025, new ownership took over Springfield news publication The Daily Events. Marty Goodnight said he and his wife, Shallina, purchased the business through Daily Events Media LLC for undisclosed terms from Springfield entrepreneur Jeff Schrag, who was elected as the city’s mayor in 2024. Schrag had owned The Daily Events since 1995. Goodnight, who also became Springfield Business Journal’s owner on Jan. 2, said there are no immediate plans to change staffing or relocate from The Daily Events’ current location at 310 W. Walnut St. He said The Daily Events continues to operate as a separate company from SBJ with its own identity, mission and established publishing routines. Goodnight intends to eventually have The Daily Events housed in the same building with SBJ, once the latter publication has a new permanent home. In November 2025, SBJ exited its office at 2101 W. Chesterfield Blvd., Ste. B105, in Chesterfield Village. Staff are currently working remotely while a new location is secured.

CMH Dialysis Center
After a Dec. 16, 2025, open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony, Citizens Memorial Hospital’s $7.3 million dialysis and nephrology center opened Jan. 5 in Bolivar. Tamera Heitz-Peek, CMH director of marketing, said paperwork processing from the state and U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services delayed the 9,373-square-foot facility’s opening from Dec. 16. J.E. Dunn Construction Co. was general contractor for the project at 1160 W. Parkview St. with Kansas City-based Pulse Design Group Inc. as general architect and frankZdesign LLC as landscape architect. Built just west of the health system’s medical campus, the CMH Dialysis Center includes patient care areas, labs and office space. Hospital officials say patients receive care in one of 16 hemodialysis chairs at the center. There also are patient rooms for home peritoneal and hemodialysis education, in addition to a waiting room and staff support areas. The CMH Nephrology Clinic, which opened in 2024 at the Douglas Medical Center, also will move into the facility in January, officials say.
