The Albatross Hookah Lounge & Fine Tobacco Emporium
Husband-and-wife owners Chris and Lauren Slater on April 18 moved The Albatross Hookah Lounge & Fine Tobacco Emporium to 406-A and 408 W. Walnut St., the former sites of Czech Us Out gym and The Moxie Cinema. Chris Slater said the company financed the $650,000 property acquisition two years ago from developer Curtis Jared through a commercial loan from Arvest Bank, and spent another $200,000 in renovations working with Jim Faulkner of Encore Gallery. In the move from 320 E. Walnut St., Slater said Albatross tripled in size to 6,000 square feet, enabling the owners to separate the hookah lounge and retail operation, which now includes a walk-in humidor. Specializing in exotic and pipe tobaccos, cigars and nasal snuff, the store also sells smoking accessories and additive-free cigarettes. Slater said pricing in the hookah lounge runs $15-$26. The Albatross also allows of-age customers to bring their own alcohol into the lounge for a $3 fee. Including manager Drew Summers, the store employs 11 and Slater plans to hire four more. Hours: 10–1 a.m. Monday through Saturday. Phone: (417) 862-2522.

Headturners Salon owner Robin Daniels on May 3 opened The Mane Salon and Social House at 404 W. Walnut St., Ste. A, formerly Grayson Home. Pricing starts at $20 for nail services or a men’s haircut and goes up to $60 for a base color, which includes cutting and styling. The back of the salon also features a bar and lounge area, and Daniels grows herbs on-site for infusing spirits. Prices range from $3 for domestic beer to $7 for cocktails.
