Thai-Me-Up
Looking for a catchy name that would garner attention and serve up a play on words, Vinny Solis said she landed on Thai-Me-Up LLC for her food truck, which opened June 1 at Metro Eats. The venture marks the first business ownership for Solis, who said the mobile eatery’s core menu at 2463 W. Sunshine St. is rooted in traditional Thai recipes such as chicken pad thai and pineapple fried rice. However, she said Thai-Me-Up also serves Chinese- and Mexican-inspired dishes, such as honey chicken and pork tacos, to provide a fusion of flavors. Prices range $5.50-$12. Solis said startup costs were around $90,000, adding she’s on a month-to-month lease with Metro Eats owner Christina Shellhart. While she has no immediate plans to leave her spot under the pavilion on the backside of Metro Eats, Solis said her long-term goal is to have the four-employee food truck branch out into catering for events and businesses.

Carney’s Window Coverings
Andrew and Kara Richart are the new owners of Carney’s Window Coverings, a longtime Springfield window treatments business. The husband and wife closed May 30 on the purchase of the company for undisclosed terms from Mike and Sherry Carney. The Carneys in 1997 started the home-based business that specializes in window treatments such as blinds, shades and draperies, primarily for commercial projects. Andrew Richart said he and his wife became first-time business owners through the purchase, noting they had no prior connection with Carney’s Window Coverings. The couple are the company’s lone employees and own it via AK Ventures Group LLC, according to the Missouri secretary of state’s office. The purchase was preceded by a 60-day period of due diligence, Richart said, adding Mike Carney is training him for the next couple of months as part of the ownership transition. Richart worked the past 12 years for Southwest Pumps and Filters Inc.
