Lou Crawford manages four employees at the full-service branch, which has a drive-thru and covered ATM, and offers debit and credit cards, safe-deposit boxes, loans, checking and savings accounts, said TelComm Credit Union President and CEO Don Ackerman. TelComm bought the 3,200-square-foot building for an undisclosed amount from Jared Enterprises in early 2011 and added 300 square feet during renovations. Ackerman said general contractor MoDoCo Inc. completed construction under budget, though he declined to disclose the cost. Jennifer Alsup started The Gladiator LLC on Oct. 4 to organize obstacle races for fitness fanatics. Gladiator LLC coordinates five- to seven-mile runs with more than 30 obstacles, known as mud runs, to overcome before making it to a final challenge. Alsup said the company plans to periodically host events around the Midwest, working with sponsors for venues and equipment, and using volunteers, who also may participate at discounted rates, to help run the events.Craig Alsup said The Gladiator doesn’t currently employ a staff, though the company plans to hire employees for its first event planned for March 2013 in Springfield. Alsup, who has participated in athletic events since his youth, said he has completed 5Ks, 10Ks and half marathons. Kristy Merritt opened Bombay Tan Co. LLC on May 14 – two days after purchasing the Life’s A Beach tanning salon in Nixa. At 322 N. Massey Blvd., the business partners operate the newly renovated 1,500-square-foot tanning salon with five part-time employees. Slentz has four years of experience with tanning salons through Exotic Tans, which she and her husband Ray started in 1998 in Nixa. After Exotic Tans was named by Looking Fit magazine as one of the top 250 tanning salons in the nation in 2000, the couple sold it the next year for $200,000. Slentz bought Life’s A Beach from Harold and Doris Olena for an undisclosed amount. Slentz and Merritt renovated the space and added tanning beds, digital timers and a sound system, as well as a spray tan service and hydro massage bed. Slentz and Merritt personally financed their $30,000 and $40,000 startup costs and are in a three-year lease at Fountain Plaza for $950 per month with JT Brown Realty Co. An unlimited tanning package is available for $19.99 per month, the hydro massage costs $27 for 30 minutes, and spray-on tans are $17.50 apiece, or three sessions for $45.
