Sunshine St. Ndiba, a second-degree black belt and a member of the American Martial Arts Alliance, leases 1,400 square feet from Eiffert Properties LLC for $1,033 a month. He invested nearly $10,000 in startup, he said. The Korean martial arts discipline Ndiba teaches focuses on muscle strength training, flexibility and balance for self-defense purposes. Ndiba received training for eight years at Missouri Taekwondo Center, which closed its Springfield studio in October. Springfield Tae Kwon Do Academy charges a $40 enrollment fee to cover a uniform and belt, $65 per month for training and $20 per additional family member. Steve Cline said Great Southern Travel’s 92 employees have remained on staff and in their current roles due to the lack of redundancies between the two companies. Cline said the Great Southern Travel brand will be replaced with Adelman signage in April, along with a transition to Adelman’s website. Adelman employs nearly 300 systemwide, including Adelman Travel Systems, its corporate booking arm, and Adelman Vacations for leisure business. He said Adelman has added a handful of Springfield-area employees, covering information technology, accounting and travel agent tasks. Great Southern Bancorp Inc. (Nasdaq: GSBC) reported a fourth-quarter gain of $6.1 million from the sale of its travel division and the sale of its insurance division to Clayton-based Huntleigh McGehee. Faith Giedd said the move better accommodates prenatal classes and meetings for expectant mothers, and it increases potential for collaborative efforts with local organizations, particularly United Way of the Ozarks and Jordan Valley Community Health Center. Doula Foundation leases the 1,938-square-foot space from United Way for undisclosed terms. Built on the services of a trained birth companion, or doula, the foundation also provides prenatal yoga, breastfeeding support and childbirth education to pregnant women living in Greene County and the surrounding areas. Services are billed on a family’s ability to pay, with special consideration for at-risk or teen moms. Giedd said volunteers offered their time and contributions to enable the move.
