Dr. Katie Robertson McElvaine and her husband Scot McElvaine opened an eye care clinic Nov. 17 at 2939 E. Battlefield Road. Springfield Family Vision LLC leases 2,080 square feet outfitted with an optical gallery, exam lab and rooms for vision therapy, contact lens fitting and pretesting. The McElvaines previously worked for Vision Clinic. Led by Medical Director Katie Robertson McElvaine, who has a doctorate in optometry from University of Missouri-St. Louis, Springfield Family Vision offers eye disease management, vision-centric nutritional counseling, contact lens fitting and neuromuscular vision therapy. She said exams with refraction tests start at $99, and most vision and medical insurances are accepted. Exam offerings include digital retinal imaging and glaucoma tests without the air puff. The clinic, which is leased from Magers Management Co. for undisclosed terms, sells frames and contacts by Nike Vision, Acuvue, Tory Burch and Bausch & Lomb. Tompkins Wellness Center Inc.
Tompkins Wellness Center Inc. relocated Nov. 3 to 10745 State Highway 165 in Hollister. Owners Wayne and Angie Tompkins spent $72,000 in the move to an 1,800-square-foot building co-owned with Tim St. Onge. Tompkins Wellness Center offers chiropractic and acupuncture care, nutritional and anti-inflammatory counseling, food allergy testing and massage therapy. Wayne Tompkins, who holds a doctorate in chiropractic, also performs patient consultations via phone or online. Tompkins shadowed Angie’s uncle, Jerry Wilhoit, before the couple moved from Italy and purchased the practice. Two others work in the clinic, which accepts Medicare and provides patients a “superbill” to submit to their health insurance providers for direct reimbursements. 417 Taphouse
Business partners Zachery Campbell, Harry Crawford and Danny Brewer opened the 417 Taphouse self-serve bar Sept. 16 at 413 S. Jefferson Ave. in Wilhoit Plaza. Organized through Basement Dweller Holdings LLC, the partners signed a five-year lease at the 4,350-square-foot former Farmers Gastropub space. With 10 employees, Campbell said startup costs were $85,000, including equipment and technology, installation of over 30 beer taps and liquor inventory. 417 Taphouse has 16 self-serve beer taps, and pours are tracked by a radio-frequency identification card issued to guests with open tabs. The menu features burgers, curly fries topped with meats, and chicken and waffles. Designed for lounging, a game room offers Wii and Nintendo 64 consoles, as well as a Skee-Ball machine and jukebox for karaoke competitions and private parties. Campbell said seating capacity is 185.
