Signal Food Store
An April 9 grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony in Ozark marked the launch of a new Signal Food Store for owner Scrivener Oil Co. Inc. Jami Jordan, president and owner of Scrivener Oil, said the 1750 State Highway 14 East store is the second Ozark location and 13th Signal shop for the company. A2D Constructors LLC was general contractor for the new store, which was designed by architect Kinetic Design and Development LLC. The store has fueling stations, convenience item retail and food service, including Hank’s Chicken, Hunt Brothers Pizza and Subway. Jordan declined to disclose startup costs for the 4,600-square-foot project. She said the new store has seven employees and is led by manager Cheyenne Garcia. Aside from Ozark, Scrivener Oil has Signal stores in Springfield, Ava, Buffalo, Camdenton, Mansfield, Mountain View, Nixa and Seymour.

Keen Smiles Family Dental
Longtime Springfield dental clinic Wilkinson Dental rebranded to Keen Smiles Family Dental on April 27. Dr. Trent Wilkinson, who founded the business in 1998, remains owner of the 1705 E. Primrose St. clinic amid the change. Paige Lorenzo, the clinic’s marketing director, said Keen Smiles employs a staff of 23 including three dentists. She declined to disclose the investment associated with the name change. The staff was adamant about completing the project locally, Lorenzo said, noting the clinic teamed with Hook Creative LLC on the new branding and 417 Marketing LLC for its new website and digital presence. The dental practice, which operates under Trent A. Wilkinson DMD PC, had its current $1.5 million, 7,700-square-foot office on Primrose Street constructed in 2018. It moved to the building at the end of that year, according to the clinic’s website. Lorenzo said one of the driving factors in the name change is to allow for doctor partnerships in the future.

Golden Goose Cafe
With its name as a nod to the Grimm fairy tale, the Golden Goose Cafe opened April 6 inside The Library Center at 4653 S. Campbell Ave. Travis Whitney is owner of the venture that offers a range of coffee, tea and other beverages, as well as sandwiches and bakery items, including croissants, muffins, scones, cookies, brownies, cinnamon rolls and parfaits. The 2,500-square-foot space in The Library Center, previously used for a cafe and coffee shop, had been empty in recent years. Whitney said he took note of the vacancy while at the library to vote in the 2024 presidential election. He had earned a culinary arts degree at Ozarks Technical Community College and was exploring options. Whitney formed the business a year ago, and his bid to lease the space was accepted. The initial lease with the library is for one year and $800 a month. He has three employees but no business partners. Whitney said half of his $60,000 startup loan from the Small Business Administration was for equipment, and the rest is working capital.
