Rivendale Institute of Learning & Center for AutismAt the end of May, the Arc of the Ozarks purchased the Rivendale Institute of Learning & Center for Autism and took over operations in early June. Operating at 1613 W. Elfindale Dr., Rivendale provides year-round help for disabled students ages 2-21 with academics, behavior and transitioning to adulthood.
Alisa Lowry, director of the Arc’s CounterPoint Autism Services, said the Arc is seeking to develop partnerships with such organizations as Missouri State University and Mercy. Lowry declined to disclose the name of the Rivendale seller, who approached the Arc about the buyout, but as recently as 2009 it was owned by Kerri Duncan, according to Springfield Business Journal archives. Rivendale, which is keeping its name through the transition, currently has 20 employees and works with 28 students and their families, Lowry said. The Arc, which helps people with disabilities integrate into the community, now employs more than 1,200 people. Hours: 8 a.m.–4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Phone: (417) 864-7921. Web:

Leisha Baker opened The Impact Center for Enrichment on Feb. 14 at 227 E. Downing St., Ste. 6, in Nixa. Separate from their tutoring services, the Impact Center concept incorporates entertainment with education through themed monthly programs, such as a “Frozen” night, where children watch the film and learn to mix the chemical compound for snow. There also are adult education programs, such as learning to roll sushi. Investing about $4,000 in the startup, the Bakers lease the 1,250-square-foot center from Ken Stephens for undisclosed terms. The Bakers are currently the only employees, with educators used as needed for the programs. The Impact Center also houses My Momentum Fitness, led by health coach Missy Martin, and Symbiotic Leadership, which provides training for business leadership and teambuilding. Hours: by appointment.
