Debbie Gatlin opened a Ray’s Donuts store Oct. 6 at 280 U.S. Highway 60 East in Republic. In an agreement with Ray’s Donuts owner Witt Stores LLC, Bob Gatlin said he paid $10,000 to cover naming and operating rights, as well as startup expenses. He buys roughly $5,000 in product each month made at the Ray’s Donuts shop in Springfield to sell in Republic. Gatlin, who previously managed a donut shop in southeast Kansas, said he privately financed the new venture. Ray’s Donuts also sells coffee from Omaha, Neb.-based LaRue Coffee. Sassy’s GoodiesAfter finding a market for handmade dog treats at area farmers markets and stores such as Harter House and Down to Earth Foods,
Nanette Willis added her own retail store March 4 at 1015 W. Atlantic St. Sassy’s Goodies, named after Willis’ Siberian husky, also sells dog collars along with the dog snacks that come in six flavors and can be personalized. Prices range from $3 for a dozen dog treats to $20 for 10 dozen. Willis said the 1,300-square-foot store is leased from Sean Sutton for one year for undisclosed terms. Debbie Fall on Feb. 4 opened Charley’s Philly Steaks in the food court at Battlefield Mall, 2528 S. Glenstone Ave. Their second franchise location under Fall Enterprises LLC, the family began operating at the Branson Landing seven years ago. The Columbus, Ohio-based franchise stores offer Philadelphia cheesesteak and grilled sub sandwiches, salads, and cheese and bacon topped fries. Menu prices range from $5 to $12. Bob and Debbie’s son, Adam, manages both Springfield and Branson stores, with the newest site staffed by 20 and occupying 540 square feet. Charley’s charges a franchise fee of $24,500 per unit and royalties of 6 percent of gross sales, according to the company’s website.
