Prehistoric Brewing Co. LLC
Craft breweries in Springfield hit double digits with the June 5 opening of Prehistoric Brewing Co. LLC. The 10th local brewery is in the Plaza Shopping Center at 1816 S. Glenstone Ave. Charley Norton, who co-owns the venture with Keith Davis, said they invested around $500,000 to startup, and the space includes a viewing area to observe the brewing process. Construction and COVID-19-related restrictions delayed opening the 3,500-square-foot brewery, Norton said. Occupancy limits are currently being observed amid the coronavirus pandemic. Norton said they plan to have an outdoor seating area complete within a few months. The owners are on a five-year lease for an undisclosed rate with KPAC Registered LLLP. In addition to owning the brewery, Norton is a project coordinator in O’Reilly Automotive Inc.’s (Nasdaq: ORLY) real estate department, and Davis is a software engineer for Sho-Me Power Cooperative in Marshfield.

Webster County Justice Center
After construction delays pushed back a planned opening in 2019, the Webster County Justice Center began operating June 19 on the northeast corner of the Marshfield square. The $18.6 million, 56,000-square-foot project at 203 E. Jefferson St. has a 116-bed jail and administration control room on its first floor. In the three-story building, the Webster County Sheriff’s Office occupies the second floor, while a 75-seat courtroom and court support offices, including attorney consultation rooms and an inmate holding area, are on the top floor. Webster County Clerk Stan Whitehurst said 48 employees staff the center, which replaces the jail in the 1941-built county courthouse. Two more project phases are planned at an undetermined time, Whitehurst said. A second phase is designed for the remainder of law enforcement services, including all court and prosecutor’s office personnel. The third phase allows for a 138-bed expansion to the jail.

Cannabis Resource Center
Canna Bliss LLC owner Jamie Tillman added a new venture next door to her CBD store, opening the Cannabis Resource Center on May 15. Tillman said the 1,200-square-foot shop at 210 W. Republic Road, Ste. 108, provides education, support and local resources for patients seeking to understand the laws regarding medical marijuana. Tillman said she wanted to remain a part of the cannabis community after being denied a medical marijuana dispensary license by the state in January. She said startup costs were around $15,000, and she’s on a three-year lease for undisclosed terms with father James Tillman, who built the center. The shop fills space vacated in April by home furnishings store Arizaga Home. Jamie Tillman said the three-employee center sells marijuana growing supplies, cultivation guides and medical marijuana certificates. Staff also offers classes in growing and cooking with cannabis.
