Brothers John and Jordan Russell started Pillar Insurance LLC on July 4 at 2847 S. Ingram Mill Rd., Ste. B-104. John Russell said the 1,200-square-foot building previously housed Columbia-based The Insurance Group Inc., which was also his previous employer. Jordan Russell, formerly coordinator of partnership services at Learfield Communications Inc., said Pillar Insurance specializes in commercial insurance, while also providing personal insurance services. Lines include Travelers, Hartford, Liberty Mutual and Allied, among others. The Russells signed an annual lease with Ingram Mill Investments LLC for an undisclosed amount; they declined to disclose startup costs. Hours: 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Budget Blinds of SE Springfield
Retired FBI special agent Alan Peak and his wife Michelle bought a Budget Blinds franchise and began operating June 15. Organized as Budget Blinds of SE Springfield, they operate the franchise out of their home. Alan Peak said the business provides sales and installation of window coverings, including shades, shutters, blinds and draperies, in 25 brands, as well as area rugs. He said franchise fees were roughly $75,000, with monthly royalties of $600 and $1,000 for Budget Blinds’ national advertising fund. MidIron Chase Woodworks LLC
Owners Scott and Crystal Myers of MidIron Chase Woodworks LLC began doing business on July 22 from their Nixa home. Krystal Myers, who handles the marketing, said MidIron Chase builds and finishes live-edge furniture for its clients. Myers said her husband makes the furniture – mostly tables – out of reclaimed, kiln-dried wood that shows the bark and natural finishes, while standing on hairpin legs.
