Quynh Vu opened Ozark Paddleboards on April 4 at 326 W. Plainview Road. The couple relocated from California, where she ran a restaurant and he was a bail bondsman. Alfafara said he grew up surfing and has been riding paddleboards for nine years. “People here are really outdoors, family and fitness oriented,” he said. “On the lakes, anybody can paddleboard.” The 3,000-square-feet store sells a custom line of stand-up paddleboards under the Alfa name, as well as the SUP-ATX and Lahui Kai models. Alfafara said the boards range from $700-$1,800, and rentals begin at $25 for three hours. The couple signed a three-year lease for $2,000 a month with HMR Properties LLP, Alfafara said, declining to disclose startup costs. Jared Duckett opened Duckett Ladd LLP on May 1 at 4650. S. National Ave., Ste. B4. Former accountants and shareholders of Poplar Bluff-based Coffman and Co. PC, Ladd said he and Duckett purchased the Springfield practice for an undisclosed amount. Firm services include, auditing, bookkeeping and tax and payroll services. Both Missouri State University accounting graduates, Duckett specializes in low-income housing, nonprofit and government auditing, while Ladd manages closely held businesses in real estate, development and construction. DuckettLadd.comJBC Tire and Service CenterJohn Steve Boswell, owner of John Boswell Corp., added the company’s fourth JBC Tire and Service Center on March 2. JBC Regional Marketing Director Shelby Williams said the nearly 6,000-square-foot store at 3033 E. Sunshine St. was built by Friga Construction Co., and estimated startup and construction costs were $1.3 million. Williams, who previously worked at University Plaza, said the full-service automotive repair shop has 10 employees. In addition to selling BFGoodrich, Dunlop and Michelin tires, the center performs regular maintenance, such as oil changes and brake services, and handles vehicle fleets. Williams said JBC leases the space, with an option to buy, from Ron Stenger Cos. Lease terms were not disclosed. The company operates tire centers in north and south Springfield and in Nixa.
