John and
Johnson Tan relocated Asian-fusion restaurant Ocean Zen on June 8 to 4117 S. National Ave. John Tan said the co-owners invested about $1.5 million to renovate the building, which housed Mr. Yen’s from 1998 until last year, when it closed on the heels of repeated Springfield-Greene County Health Department violations. After purchasing the property for roughly $1.7 million in November, the brothers brought on Fusion Consulting LLC to lead the $1.5 million renovations, which included gutting the interior and creating a Las Vegas-theme in the 11,000-square-foot space. Ocean Zen, which employs 120, can seat up to 400 inside, including a banquet room that holds 200, and 50 on an outdoor patio. The brothers opened Ocean Zen – which serves Pacific Rim cuisine, a fusion of Asian, French and Italian – on South Glenstone Avenue in 2004 and moved to East Battlefield in 2007.
