A new telephone directory called Names & Numbers opened a Springfield office May 6 at 2731 E. Battlefield Road. The directory features local maps, toll-free numbers, area events and a telephone cross-reference section, said Laura Beitzell, office manager (pictured). Names & Numbers has its headquarters in Pittsburg, Kan., and employs 200 people. Springfield is its 43rd market in eight states, where it reaches more than a million homes. The Springfield book is due out in December, Beitzell said.|ret||ret||tab|
Silver Gypsy, a jewelry and gift shop owned by Julie and Robert Loss, opened for business May 7 at 1901 S. Glenstone Ave. in the Plaza Towers Shopping Center. Julie Loss said the store sells silver rings, bracelets, charms, earrings and stone jewelry, as well as candles, soaps, purses and primitive art made by Robert Loss. Julie Loss designs some of the jewelry, which she has sold at arts and craft shows. "We've done the shows and just decided we need a retail location." Silver Gypsy is open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.|ret||ret||tab|
The UPS Store at 208 E. College St., Ste. 1, in Branson opened under new ownership March 31. Larry Blaha, owner of The UPS Store in Branson West, acquired the business from Travis Smith when it was Mailboxes Etc. UPS converted the stores to UPS nationwide April 7. Blaha said he is awaiting permanent signage, which should arrive by June. The UPS Store is open 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.|ret||ret||tab|
Mike's Place Grill & Pub moved May 5 to 1717 E. Cherokee St. The supper club, known for its steaks, closed its South Campbell Avenue location April 26 after six years there in favor of the larger space. Seating capacity increased from 60 to 107, said owner Mike Lacey. Mike's Place serves lunch 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday and dinner 4-10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Lacey said there is live easy-listening entertainment six nights a week. "We try to gear ourselves like the old supper clubs of yesteryear," he said.|ret||ret||tab|
