Modern SocietyAfter three years downtown,
Bryan and
Andrea Pena moved Modern Society clothing boutique Jan. 31 to 2652 S. Glenstone Ave. in the Brentwood Shopping Center. Andrea Pena said the larger space, at 2,500 square feet, allows for additional brands and positions the company closer to its customers, about 80 percent of whom live on the south side. In the new space, Grayson Home handled the design work, and all fixtures were custom made. Local businesses Clark’s Forge did metalwork and Custom Cut Designs performed woodworking for signage and shelving. Pena said women’s clothing ranges between $38 to $178 for such brands as Gentle Fawn, Bobi, Ladakh and Michael Lauren. Men’s clothing ranges from $58 to $178, and brands include Original Penguin, Ben Sherman, Howe and Grayers. The Penas, who employ two at the store, signed a five-year lease with Jared Enterprises for an undisclosed rate. Hours: 10 a.m.–6:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon–4 p.m. Sunday. Date Lady Inc.With distribution of date-based products across the United States and Canada, Date Lady Inc. moved its headquarters Aug. 8 to 900 W. Commercial St. The 5,000-square-foot building houses a kitchen, warehouse and tasting room for the company’s date syrup, chocolate syrup, caramel sauce, prepackaged dates, date sugar and balsamic vinegar. Project Manager
Clarissa Young said the products come from organic date fruit, and the company ships mainly to the coasts. “We get some dates from California and Arizona, but there are so few organic farms in the U.S. that we also import from the Middle East,” Young said. Owner
Colleen Sundlie is originally from the Ozarks, but she discovered dates living three years in the Middle East, said Young, Sundlie’s niece. With seven employees, Date Lady products are sold locally at MaMa Jean’s Natural Market, Price Cutter and Hy-Vee. Date Lady previously operated from leased space at 3052 S. Clifton Ave., which Young said was one-third in size. Hours: 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Phone: (417) 414-2282 Web:
