MaMa Jean’s Natural Foods Market owners Diana Hicks and Susie Farbin opened their fresh-food concept July 1 at 900 E. Battlefield Road, Ste. 140, in the Battlefield Market Place. Called MJ’s Market and Deli, Hicks said the 6,900-square-foot store offers prepared foods for dine-in and take-out, including deli items, salads and hot entrees, and it houses a commercial kitchen for grab-and-go items for all MaMa Jean’s stores. Products include soups, coffee, smoothies, organic juices and gluten-free items, Hicks said. Previously the home of Florentina’s Ristorante Italiano, Quincy Magoo’s and Fish restaurants, the market seats around 52. The owners signed a five-year lease with Magers Lodgings Inc., and startup costs were around $700,000. Hicks said the store currently employs 30. Clinvest Research LLC
Dr. Roger Cady transferred ownership of Clinvest Research LLC on May 9 to his son Ryan Cady. The younger Cady has two years of experience as director of research for Banyan Group Inc., and Roger Cady has transitioned to vice president of neurology with Alder BioPharmaceuticals Inc. (Nasdaq: ALDR). At 3805 S. Kanas Expressway, Ste. B, Ryan Cady said Clinvest Research conducts Phase II-IV clinical trials for health conditions including migraines, rheumatoid arthritis and Alzheimer’s disease. According to Clinvest’s website, the company performs trials at no cost to the patient and may be compensated depending on the time and travel dedicated to the trial. Kum & Go LC
On June 24, Des Moines, Iowa-based Kum & Go LC relocated a South Campbell Avenue store a few blocks north with a new marketplace prototype at 2704 S. Campbell Ave. Communications Director Kristie Bell said the 6,200-square-foot Kum & Go Marketplace offers an open kitchen layout, indoor seating and a heated patio outside, complimentary Wi-Fi and device charging stations, and an expansive beer cave. She said the building is designed to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification, with features such as LED lighting and low-flow water fixtures. Kum & Go plans to construct and relocate three more stores in Springfield under the new design.
