Mercy Clinic Family Medicine – South Creek
Mercy Springfield Communities relocated a clinic Jan. 10 to a larger building at 1718 W. Woodland St. The $3.2 million Mercy Clinic Family Medicine – South Creek replaces the health care system’s previous facility less than a half-mile away at 2711 S. Meadowbrook Ave. and adds 1,500 square feet of space. St. Louis-based McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. served as general contractor for the 5,100-square-foot clinic designed by Wichita, Kansas-based HFG Architecture. Mercy spokesperson Sonya Kullmann said Kathryn Cummings is manager of the 16-employee clinic, which includes a blood draw area, two procedure rooms and 11 exam rooms. Several of the exam spaces have exterior entrances and private restrooms to allow patients with contagious illnesses to avoid waiting rooms. Additionally, the building uses centralized workstations. Kullmann said Mercy plans to retain ownership of the Meadowbrook Avenue building with intentions to repurpose it for other patient care needs.

San Clemente, California-based law firm Gilson Daub Inc. expanded Dec. 5 to the Springfield market with the hiring of attorney Alex Givens. Givens works from a home office in Springfield. Gilson Daub Regional Managing Attorney Weston Mills said the 12-year-old firm chose Springfield as a site for expansion as it had local client needs in the area. The company operates in California, Arizona, Hawaii, Kansas, Missouri and Nevada, according to its website.

Contender eSports Springfield
A second video gaming center for Contender eSports Springfield LLC opened Dec. 5 at 1845 E. Sunshine St. in the Vib Springfield hotel. Brett Payne, who founded and co-owns Springfield-based umbrella company Contender eSports LLC, which sells video gaming franchises, said the center is in the hotel’s lobby next to restaurant The Wheelhouse LLC. Payne said the hotel is not a franchise location for Contender eSports but pays an undisclosed monthly license fee in addition to its $30,000 investment for a five-station setup of PCs. Contender eSports provides the equipment, installation, updates and maintenance as part of the agreement, he said, noting the center is open for both hotel customers and the public. As with its Springfield center at 3010 S. National Ave., which opened in 2020, Contender’s Vib location offers games such as Call of Duty and Halo. Players can pay by the hour, purchase day or night passes or sign up for monthly memberships. Payne said his company has 13 gaming center locations in nine states and Canada.
