Little Spanish Playschool
Mary Knauer Miller on July 12 formed Little Spanish Playschool LLC to teach Spanish language classes to children at three Springfield locations. Formats for classes, which begin Sept. 7, include a parent accompanying a child, children only and family sessions; after-school classes are available for elementary-level children. Five-week sessions of one 45-minute class per week cost $75, Miller said, noting that class sizes are capped at six students. Using an immersion approach, 90 percent of what Miller says in class will be in Spanish. Meeting sites are Discovery Center, National Avenue Christian Church and First Unitarian Universalist Church. Startup costs were $7,000, raised without financing. Miller, whose education in Spanish includes study abroad, has taught in Springfield Public Schools and at Summit Preparatory School. She has a Spanish minor from Rhodes College and a master’s in elementary education from Drury University. Phone: (417) 773-6783. Web: LittleSpanishPlayschool.com

OTC Lebanon Center
Ozarks Technical Community College opened a 13-acre Lebanon Center at 22360 Highway MM in Lebanon with the first day of fall classes Aug. 22. Students meet in two 35,000-square-foot converted warehouses, said OTC spokesman Joel Doepker. Casey Hall holds 13 classrooms for two-year-degree programs, as well as three computer labs, two science labs and a drafting design lab; the other building houses work force development and technical education. Reuben and Mary Lou Casey, of San Clemente, Calif., donated the $2.6 million property, and OTC spent $4 million to repurpose the buildings. Lebanon-area students pay out-of-district tuition of $121.50 per credit hour. The center employs a director, three full-time staffers and four part-timer employees, plus about 50 adjunct instructors, said Jenna Reeves, site secretary. Classes run 8 a.m.–9:45 p.m. Phone: (417) 532-5044. Web: OTC.edu/Lebanon
