Carmel, Ind.-based J.D. Byrider opened its 153rd dealership Oct. 19 with a franchise location at 1226 S. Glenstone Ave. Franchisees Winston Sleeth and Russ Larson purchased the 5-acre former Lincoln Mercury dealership for $2.2 million and invested another $600,000 to renovate the showroom, offices and six service bays, said Sleeth, who moved from Indianapolis to serve as general manager. He previously worked in the corporate offices. “I started out pushing a mail cart, and now I own one,” Sleeth said, noting his Iowa-based business partner has ownership in seven J.D. Byrider dealerships. Sleeth said the used car dealership carries 2004 to 2012 models, generally listed between $8,000 and $14,000, and in-house financing is provided through Car Now Acceptance Corp. A Valeria Boss Salon
A Valeria Boss Salon relocated Sept. 4 in center city to 318 S. Campbell Ave. from 312 E. Olive St. Co-owner Michael Boss said the 4,100-square-foot salon, formerly the Sertoma Events Center, was designed with 17 stylist stations with Freestyle Systems blow dryers descending from the ceiling, a 12-chair color bar for texture and color services, and an eight-chair laver lounge. The 18 stylists, led by founder Valeria Boss, manage around 3,000 clients, he said. AVBS, a Paul Mitchell salon, signed on for three years with multiple three-year options for $2,950 per month with landlord Scott Tillman, Michael Boss said. AVBS also leased its Olive Street salon from Tillman, and Boss said the new space has better layout and parking options. The husband-and-wife team has operated a salon downtown since early 2001. Vision Clinic-Ozark
Vision Clinic-Ozark relocated Oct. 24 to 6005 N. 21st St. in Ozark, doubling its previous office space. The clinic operated at 1423 W. State Highway J before signing a five-year-lease for 3,000 square feet with Ozark Mountain Granite & Tile Co. owners Denny and Jane Hush, said Jeremy Montgomery, who handles business development for the clinic. Vision Clinic-Ozark shares the building with Ozark Mountain Granite and Touche Designs. Montgomery and his wife, Dr. Laura Montgomery, founded the optometry practice in 2007 before they sold to Vision Clinic in 2011. With the move, the clinic added new equipment and a vision therapy specialty with the hiring of Dr. Carol Scott. Including Drs. Montgomery, Scott and Katie Robertson McElvaine, Vision Clinic-Ozark employs nine, offering eye exams, contact lenses, glasses and treatment of eye disease.
