Pennsylvania-based Insomnia Cookies opened a Springfield store Jan. 20. in Campus Plaza Center, 401 S. Kimbrough Ave., Ste. B2, next door to Qdoba Mexican Grill. Founded by Seth Berkowitz in 2003, when he was studying at the University of Pennsylvania, the chain of 60 corporate stores targets college towns. Insomnia Cookies bakes and delivers cookies, cakes, ice cream and milk daily until 3 a.m. Marketing Manager Giana Marinelli said the Springfield store, the third in Missouri and currently the most western location in the chain, currently employs about a dozen, managed by Joey Robinson. Prices are $1.35 per cookie, $14 per dozen and a residence hall special of $52 for 50 cookies. Marinelli declined to disclose startup costs and lease rates. Owie Eliminators LLC
Angela and Jason Busse started Owie Eliminators LLC in September to help parents and grandparents provide safe environments for children to learn and grow. The home-based business analyzes clients’ homes for childproofing and installs product purchases based on budgets. The Busses previously owned and operated a nationally accredited child care facility in Oklahoma. “A lot of people don’t know what products to buy when they have children,” Angela Busse said. “Even if they (do), they don’t know how to install it properly. There are a lot of guidelines that go with that.” She said installations cost roughly $60 per hour, and the estimated startup costs were around $3,000. Hours: 8 a.m.–6 p.m. Monday through Friday. After 41 years in Plaza Towers, Elliott, Robinson & Co. LLP moved Nov. 21 to a $3 million ecofriendly building in TerraGreen Office Park, 2305 S. Blackman Road, Ste. D. The certified public accounting firm, established in 1973, specializes in tax and audit services, including business valuations, tax credits and forensic accounting. The 14,287-square-foot headquarters, designed with natural light, sustainable materials and low-energy products, has about 50 offices, three conference rooms and a training room. Spokeswoman Brenda Raynor said rotating local artists’ work in the office is open for public viewing. The company also operates a branch in Nixa, Raynor said.
