West Des Moines, Iowa-based Hy-Vee Inc. opened its first Springfield store Oct. 18 at 1720 W. Battlefield Road. The 86,000-square-foot store, which cost about $17 million to build and employs 527, offers natural and organic foods, a deli, freshly prepared hot and cold food bars, in-house chefs and dietitians, a pharmacy, wine and spirits store, floral department, catering and Hy-Vee gasoline. Store Director Mike Hoppman said two staff dietitians offer nutrition counseling and cholesterol screenings. “Our company is getting big into not just food but teaching about food,” said Hoppman, a 22-year Hy-Vee veteran who started as a night stock employee. Hy-Vee, which was founded in 1930 by Charles Hyde and David Vredenburg, operates more than 230 stores in eight Midwestern states and reports annual sales of nearly $7 billion. Hours: 24 hours, daily. RecordIt2ProveIt LLC
In response to being burglarized after moving to Springfield from St. Louis, Eric Stanley opened RecordIt2ProveIt LLC on Aug. 1. Operating from home, Stanley photographs and records the inventory of a residence or business for insurance purposes in the case of a burglary. After the recordings and photographs are taken, Stanley said customers receive copies for their personal records. Stanley has worked 25 years in video production, editing for 20 years and as a partner in Coolfire Media in St. Louis. RecordIt2ProveIt charges by square footage of the home or business. Bank of Missouri
On Oct. 17, Bank of Missouri opened its fifth Springfield area branch at 2360 E. Sunshine St. The 4,560-square-foot bank is the third Perryville-based Bank of Missouri opened this year, following branches in Ozark and on South Kansas Expressway. The East Sunshine Street branch, a former Village Bank, employs nine while the southwest Missouri branches employ a total of 54, said Mick Nitsch, community bank president. Bank of Missouri purchased former Village Bank branches in March from Liberty Bank for an undisclosed price. Bank of Missouri’s other area branches are in Republic and on South Campbell Avenue.
