Two years after making its Missouri debut in Springfield, Huey Magoo’s, a Florida-based chicken tenders restaurant franchise, opened its second Queen City location on April 8. Joining a store in Ozark that opened in 2023, it’s the third local eatery owned by franchisees James and Lisa Tillman. The husband and wife said the 2,650-square-foot restaurant at 1382 E. Battlefield Road is the first of two they plan to open this year in the Ozarks. The Tillmans are partnering with friends Randy and Patricia Phelps on another Huey Magoo’s in Republic, which will be near the intersection of Highway 60 and North Stone Falls Road. James Tillman estimated a July opening in Republic, declining to disclose startup costs. Tillman said he teamed as general contractor with Newberg-based TCI Construction LLC for the Springfield shop, while Randy Phelps, formerly with Federal Construction, is handling general contracting duties in Republic. The new Springfield eatery employs 50 and is led by Austin Welch, district manager.

4M Building Solutions
St. Louis-based 4M Building Solutions finalized the purchase of Springfield-based commercial cleaning company Brokate Janitorial for undisclosed terms on April 1. Brokate CEO Jeremy Brokate said the business, which was founded in 1995, is now operating as 4M Building Solutions. Brokate Janitorial’s roughly 175 employees remain in place through the acquisition, which adds nearly 4 million square feet of service space to 4M’s footprint. 4M Building Solutions will operate in Springfield at the existing Brokate Janitorial office at 1900 E. Chestnut Expressway. Brokate said that he and Brokate Janitorial executives Cheyne Brokate, COO, and Austin Propst, CFO, remain on board with “roles actively supporting this region” for 4M. The purchase of Brokate Janitorial marks the 35th acquisition by 4M since it was founded in 1978. Nine of those acquisitions have been made since Bloomfield Hills, Michigan-based O2 Investment Partners LP invested in 4M in 2023.

Zurchers
A Utah-based retailer that offers supplies for events such as birthday parties and weddings held a March 28 soft launch at 2620 S. Campbell Ave. Nick Zurcher, president of Draper, Utah-based Zurchers said the company saw an opportunity to expand the family business into Missouri with Party City closing its doors. Party City announced in December that it would wind down operations at its roughly 700 stores nationwide. Zurcher said his company took over the Party City lease on South Campbell Avenue in South Creek Crossing, where Party City relocated in 2015 after operating in a shared building with Incredible Pizza Co. at 2840 S. Campbell Ave. Greene County assessor records list South Creek Crossing LLC as owner of the nearly 14,000-square-foot building. Zurcher said the Springfield store has nine employees. Zurchers’ website indicates it offers a variety of balloon options, birthday decorations and supplies, wedding inventory such as tableware, costumes and the ability to shop by color.
