Haven Games
A new player in the tabletop gaming scene emerged in Nixa with the July 2 opening of Haven Games LLC. The retail shop in the Village Marketplace shopping center at 701 N. McCroskey St., Ste. 6, is co-owned by friends Chris Fernandez and Elatia Webb. Fernandez said startup costs for the first-time business owners were around $12,000, adding they signed a three-year lease for an undisclosed rate with Village Marketplace Nixa LLC. The owners are the lone employees for the 1,304-square-foot shop, which Fernandez said sells nontraditional board games such as Ticket to Ride and Catan, as well as card games, including Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokemon. The store also features a gaming area and sells snacks and beverages, he said. Both owners have past game store experience, as Fernandez said he previously worked for Gaming Zone in Puerto Rico, while Webb volunteered at Collectomaniacs when it was open in Ozark.

Lake and Bake Pizza
An entrepreneur teamed with his wife and a family friend to open Lake and Bake Pizza, a Branson West restaurant at 17201 Business Highway 13. The eatery opened Sept. 13 and is owned by Rod and Jennifer Triplett and Scott Novak. The venture is registered under LNB Business Development LLC, Rod Triplett said, declining to disclose startup costs or lease terms with Ward Family LLC. Triplett said five employees staff the 1,200-square-foot restaurant, which offers carry-out and curbside service for its menu of take-and-bake pizza, salads, breadsticks and cookies. Pizza prices range $12-$20 with specialty options such as Hello Sunshine, which includes eggs, onions, cheese sauce, green peppers and bacon. Triplett said in addition to Lake and Bake Pizza, he also owns Family 1st Pawn in Republic. His wife is a partner with Fort Worth, Texas-based law firm Thomas-Walters PLLC, which has offices in five states, including Missouri, according to its website.

Thrive Branson West
The first medical marijuana dispensary in the Table Rock Lake area opened Sept. 10 at 18490 Business Highway 13 in Branson West. Thrive Branson West is the first of two shops planned by owner SW Retail Holdings LLC, said spokesperson Susan Kalos. She declined to disclose startup costs, which included construction of a 4,500-square-foot building. Kalos said attorney John Bigler, who also is director of asset and development transactions with O’Reilly Hospitality Management LLC, is among owners of SW Retail Holdings. She declined to disclose other owners of the company. Thrive’s first Missouri retail location was preceded by its 2016 debut in Illinois with a pair of dispensaries, Kalos said. The company added two more shops in 2020 after adult-use marijuana was legalized in Illinois. She said another Thrive is planned for the St. Louis area this spring. Thrive Branson West sells cannabis flower, pre-rolled joints, concentrates and marijuana-infused edibles, such as gumdrops and chocolate bars.
