Getaway Golf
John Reinart
opened travel destination-themed Getaway Golf on May 20 at 3833 E. Sunshine St. Reinart hired New Jersey-based Harris Miniature Golf Inc. to design and install the 36-hole course. “They do courses worldwide,” Reinart said. “They build them in Ireland, Germany, what have you. That was the only nonlocal company.” Getaway Golf’s holes are themed with tourist attractions, some up to 12 feet tall, including the Statue of Liberty, Grand Canyon and Eiffel Tower. Springfield-based Elemoose – which does work for Bass Pro Shops – buialt the themes, one 18-hole course featuring U.S. tourist spots and the other international destinations. BP Builders LLC handled construction work, primarily of the 1,600-square-foot clubhouse, with design by Arkifex Studios LLC.  Startup costs were undisclosed, but Reinart said it was partially funded by a loan through State Bank of Southwest Missouri. The cost to play one round is $12 for adults and $9 for children, while both courses cost $20 and $15, respectively..

Orange Leaf Of Springfield LLC
Local Orange Leaf franchisee Curt Bartell opened a second Springfield location April 18 at the corner of Glenstone Avenue and Grand Street. Occupying a long-vacant storefront that once housed a Blockbuster, Bartell hopes to attract the Missouri State University and center-city population with self-serve frozen yogurt. The first Springfield Orange Leaf opened in 2010 and Bartell purchased the franchise, along with rights to the entire Springfield region, for an undisclosed amount about four years later. Bartell also acquired a St. Louis Orange Leaf four months ago and plans to open another in St. Louis by summer. All of his stores sell snacks and desserts at a flat price, having dropped a previous policy of weighing items and charging by the ounce. “There’s no sticker shock at the end,” he said. Bartell leases the space at 1011 S. Glenstone Ave. from Jim Barnes – the former Blockbuster franchisee — and invested $350,000, including a $25,000 franchise fee, to open the store.

CoxHealth Urgent Care Ozark
CoxHealth opened an Ozark urgent care center and walk-in clinic May 22 at 5548 N. Farmer Branch Road, connected to its new CoxHealth Center Ozark location. The 1,000-square-foot space is and is equipped to handle roughly 50 patients a day. Outfitted with equipment investments to the tune of $180,000, Vice President of Clinical Services Amanda Hedgpeth said the clinic can treat nonlife threatening illnesses and injuries such as cuts and lacerations, minor burns, allergic reactions, infections, fractures and eye injuries. It also offers X-ray services and common lab testing on-site. The staff rotate between Springfield and Ozark clinics. Medical records are shared between CoxHealth locations, Hedgpeth said, and clients may transfer from one to another. “We really just looked at the patients that are coming to our Springfield urgent care,” she said, “and Ozark was the primary place that people are coming from.”
