Forged Jiu Jitsu
After teaching Brazilian jujitsu in the Springfield, Nixa and Ozark areas since 2019, Justin Edel opened a gym of his own with the Nov. 10, 2025, launch of Forged Jiu Jitsu. The 1,500-square-foot gym in Ozark is located at 773 N. 20th St. in the Diamond Shopping Center. A purple belt in the martial art, Edel, who owns the business via Forged Life LLC, said the academy offers programs for adults and children focused on self-defense, fitness and building discipline and confidence. Group classes, private one-on-one coaching and specialized workshops, such as women’s self-defense seminars, are offered. Edel said while occasional guest instructors help at the academy, he is the lone employee at this time. Startup costs were roughly $40,000, he said, declining to disclose the two-year lease rate with Diamond Shopping Center LLC. Memberships, which offer a free trial class and have no contract, include weekly unlimited sessions and beginner-friendly instruction. They are priced at $139 per month, according to Forged Jiu Jitsu’s website.

Cerris Systems
Cerris Systems acquired Springfield-based Allen’s Mechanical on March 31 for undisclosed terms, said Hannah Wiley, communications specialist at Cerris, a national mechanical, electrical and plumbing provider and building automation contractor. Allen’s Mechanical is a mechanical contracting firm with HVAC services including design-build, installation and ongoing maintenance. Longtime Allen’s Mechanical employee Vicki Mayo has joined Cerris Systems as vice president of client solutions as part of the deal, according to a news release. Willey said all 35 Allen’s Mechanical employees are joining Cerris Systems. They will work out of Cerris Systems’ Springfield office at 3702 E. Kerr St. With the Allen’s Mechanical staff, Cerris Systems has over 50 employees in Springfield. Cerris officials say acquiring Allen’s Mechanical will increase project capacity in Springfield and surrounding communities. Cerris Systems, with 11 offices nationally, is part of Overland Park, Kansas-based Cerris, a roughly $1.5 billion company.

Kingdom Pediatrics Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy in the home is offered in the Springfield area through Kingdom Pediatrics Occupational Therapy LLC. Owner Kayla King, who has been an occupational therapist for 17 years, filed articles of organization with the Missouri secretary of state’s office on Dec. 22, 2025, for the business, which aims to build coordination, strength, social skills and brain integration through play, according to the company’s Facebook page. King said therapy services for the venture, which doesn’t have a brick-and-mortar location, can be scheduled on a weekly, biweekly, monthly or as-needed basis. Gap care is available for those on a wait list for OT services but needing support now, she said, noting care is easily transitioned to another provider when space is available. In addition to home visits, Kingdom Pediatrics partners with The Jungle Gym Indoor Playground LLC at 3322 S. Campbell Ave., Ste. GG, as a site for caregiver training. King said business startup costs were minimal and included business filing and license fees.
