Filipino Market LLC
Mary Kris Palmer opened specialty grocer Filipino Market LLC on Dec. 8 in south Springfield. Her first ownership venture, she runs the 2,200-square-foot shop at 3488 S. Campbell Ave. in the Shamrock Center with her husband, Operations Manager Joey Palmer. He said the couple are the sole employees at the grocery, which carries Philippine products, including tempura shrimp-flavored snacks and bangus, which is a Philippine fish. Also stocked are fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as American and Philippine brands of beverages and frozen foods. The shop also offers online ordering and free local delivery for orders over $50, according to its website. The Palmers moved in May 2020 to Rogersville from St. Charles, he said, adding his wife was inspired to open a grocery by her aunt, who owned one in the Philippines. He declined to disclose startup costs or the three-year lease rate with O’Reilly Management Services LLC.

Domino’s
The Republic restaurant for national pizza chain Domino’s moved Dec. 1 to expanded space at 491 Highway 60 East. Franchisees Art Hurteau and Marty Prather of A&M Pizza Inc. relocated the shop less than a mile from 586 Highway 60 East. Hurteau said general contractor Ross Construction Group LLC built the 2,050-square-foot eatery, which includes a pick-up window. Total project investment, including land, equipment and signage, was roughly $1.2 million, Hurteau said. Menu items include made-to-order and specialty pizzas, pastas, hot wings, oven-baked sandwiches, salads and desserts, with prices ranging $7-$20. General Manager Anthony Manuel leads the 30-person staff. A&M Pizza runs 33 stores in southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas, Hurteau said, adding two more are planned this year. It also operates shops in Illinois and Indiana.

XFit Nixa LLC
After operating a gym in Springfield since 2010, personal trainer David Poland expanded into Christian County with the Oct. 26 opening of XFit Nixa LLC. The gym fills 5,000 square feet at 588 E. State Highway CC, Ste. 6, in Nixa’s Hillshire Corner, Poland said. Startup costs were around $120,000, he said, declining to disclose the one-year lease rate with Zach Dishman of DMAN Rentals. Manager Kelly Keelan leads a staff of five at the gym, which offers personal and group training classes, sports training, nutritional advice and support. Monthly memberships range $44-$59 with a 12-month commitment, or $64 on a month-to-month basis, according to its website. Poland started his own personal training facility, Extreme Fitness, in 2010, which became XFit LLC in 2017. The Springfield gym is at 2053 S. Waverly St., Ste. E. Poland considers Nixa an untapped market for personal training and 24-hour gym access in his business model.
