Brandon Stockstill and fiancee Brittny Tripicchio are the new owners of Downtown Nutrition Club LLC, 323 E. Walnut St. On Jan. 1, they took over the 1,900-square-foot shop from husband-and-wife Colby and Morgan Helms, and their friend, Bridgette Cummings. Stockstill said he purchased the business and equipment for $20,000, noting this marks his and Tripicchio’s first ownership venture. He declined to disclose their one-year lease rate with Springfield Lofts. The shop, which opened in June 2020 and employs six, sells meal replacement and post workout shakes, and energy teas. Shakes generally run $7 with such flavors as strawberry banana and blueberry muffin. Teas range $5-$7 in unique flavors including sour patch and ocean water. Stockstill said he and Tripicchio are passionate about fitness and see Downtown Nutrition Club as a way to help others reach health goals.

F8 Training
F8 Training, a facility designed to teach women physical fitness, situational awareness and self-defense techniques, opened Jan. 4 at 2048 S. Stewart Ave. General Manager Joey Johns declined to disclose startup costs or lease terms for the venture co-owned by Todd Edwards and Aaron Elliott. She said the owners created F8 to help women build confidence and feel empowered, collaborating with local law enforcement on the curriculum. Classes were offered to focus groups in late 2020 to fine tune the program ahead of its public opening, Johns said. The classes, priced $225-$295, run in eight-week sessions and are designed around all fitness levels, she said. A staff of three are employed at the 2,500-square-foot facility, she said, and classes are taught by eight instructors with backgrounds in law enforcement, martial arts, personal training and group fitness. Edwards also owns Lloyds Dry Cleaners LLC, while Elliott is area manager for medical device company Medtronic PLC (NYSE: MDT), according to his LinkedIn profile.

Flourish CDC
Schweitzer United Methodist Church’s poverty alleviation services expanded with the Jan. 24 launch of nonprofit Flourish CDC. It provides job training assistance, a food pantry and a program to transition women to secure housing from insecure circumstances, said Jill Finney, executive director. Flourish CDC is a community development corporation, she said, noting the term refers to organizations focused on revitalizing a specific area. Finney, who started March 1 for the 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is one of its two employees. She said a program director is expected to be hired soon for the organization, which currently operates out of Schweitzer church. One of the nonprofit’s goals is to set up an office in an identified area of need, she said. Finney comes to Flourish CDC from nonprofit Safe and Sober Inc., where she worked a year as executive director.
