Doggy Style Food Truck
A restaurant industry veteran invested in a mobile food operation centered on hot dogs with the April 17 launch of Doggy Style Food Truck LLC. Jeremy Mathis, who co-owns the four-employee venture with wife Tambera, said startup costs were roughly $8,500. The truck travels to various towns every week, Mathis said, including Springfield, Marshfield, Mount Vernon, Republic and Willard. The majority of its menu of over 15 hot dogs – many of which have unique toppings such as apples and peanut butter and jelly – are named after dog breeds. For instance, the Bulldog is topped with sauerkraut and spicy mustard, and the Dalmatian has sausage gravy, scrambled eggs and cheese. Prices range $6.50-$8.50, according to its menu. Mathis said he has around 20 years of experience in food service, including past management of a Sonic Drive-In in Joplin. The couple also own wedding photography business 4ever Memories, he said, but is currently only doing referrals as they focus full time on the food truck.

Schuchmann Meat Co.
The second shop for Schuchmann Meat Co. opened July 10 near the busy Sunshine Street and Campbell Avenue intersection at 520 W. University St., Ste. D. The 1,250-square-foot, three-employee store is in space formerly occupied by R&K Coins, which shuttered last year. The company, owned by husband and wife Chad and Julie Schuchmann, made its Queen City debut in February at 4406 S. Campbell Ave., Ste. 100. Julie Schuchmann said the new shop’s proximity to Bass Pro Shops and Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium was a draw to add a second location. She declined to disclose startup costs or the company’s five-year lease rate with Queen City Eye Care Center LLC owner Dr. Agnes Tran. Schuchmann Meat Co. provides custom butchering of beef and pork products for retail customers. It also sells charcuterie boxes, sauces, rubs and seasonings, as well as sides to complement the meats. Schuchmann said a third shop is scheduled to open by mid-August at 1845 E. Turner St., Ste. A.

U.S. Cellular
Wireless carrier U.S. Cellular relocated April 19 to 2623 N. Kansas Expressway in the Town and Country Shopping Center. The store previously operated the past seven years in Battlefield Mall. Company officials said relocation costs, including renovations for the 1,800-square-foot space formerly occupied by the shuttered Wireless Trendz LLC, were roughly $320,000. Lease terms were not disclosed. John Anguiano, retail area sales manager for U.S. Cellular in Missouri, said store manager Mark Bennett leads the six-person staff. Anguiano said the new store location is more ideally suited for the company as it works to grow brand awareness in the Springfield market. The retailer sells cellphones from brands such as Apple, Google and Samsung, as well as accessories, wireless plans and high-speed internet service, according to its website. U.S. Cellular also has a second Springfield store at 3825 S. Glenstone Ave.
