Casey@Bat, a baseball and softball indoor training facility, opened for business Sept. 8 at 425 W. Plainview Road. The 9,300-square-foot space has baseball and softball batting cages, pitching mounds and an equipment sales area. Group and private instructional clinics are available with former Southwest Missouri State University baseball players and current minor leaguers Jason Hart (Texas Rangers), Brad Ziegler (Philadelphia Phillies) and Greg Mathis (Arizona Diamondbacks), according to owner Ed Justus (pictured). Justus is former Wonders of Wildlife director of guest services. The facility can be rented for team practices, events, birthday parties and fundraisers, he said. It is open to the public 2 p.m.-9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday.
Captain Ds opened a new location Oct. 6 at 2604 E. Sunshine St. The remodeled 3,600-square-foot restaurant formerly was a Hardees. There are 20 full- and part-time employees, according to Area Director Jim Morris. Captain Ds is open 10:45 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:45 a.m.-11 p.m. on weekends.
The Original Gourmet Hot Doggery moved Sept. 26 to 711 W. Kearney St. Owner Bart Floyd converted the former Little Caesars Pizza space after closing his Sunshine Street location in August. The vast majority of our customers were from this north-central side of town, Floyd said of the move. The Hot Doggery offers hot dogs with 35 toppings to choose from, baked potatoes and its signature dog: a foot-long Coney. The 900-square-foot space seats 15 and features a jukebox. Floyd has owned the business for two years; it has been in existence for 14 years. Hours of operation are 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Amazing Sonshine Interiors moved Sept. 5 to 301 Winninger Road, Highlandville, after operating for 10 years in Falls City, Neb. Susi and John Sailors moved to Highlandville along with the rest of the Falls City church congregation. The approximately 20-person congregation has started New Beginnings Church in Branson. Sailors provides custom window treatments, painting and wallpapering for home and office. She works by appointment only.
