Briar House Brewing Co.
A Monett native’s multiyear goal to open his hometown’s first brewery came to fruition on Oct. 24. Briar House Brewing Co. LLC fills some 5,000 square feet in a roughly 112-year-old building at 222 E. Broadway St. that started as a grocery, said co-owner Matt Batson, who owns the venture with his wife, Rawn, a longtime chiropractor in town. Batson said he bought the building for $93,000 in 2021 and has spent nearly three years doing renovations. Including renovation work and equipment purchases, he estimated startup costs were roughly $500,000. Sold individually by the pint or in flights, Briar House’s beer menu started with five in-house produced options on tap: a blonde ale, an IPA, an Irish dry stout, an amber lager and a dunkel. It also has added wine, according to its Facebook page. With seven barrels in production at his facility, Batson said he’s hopeful Briar House’s annual beer output could exceed 300 barrels a year. However, he said beer distribution is not on his radar at this time.

Flora Farms
Humansville-based Flora Farms LLC launched its own branded dispensary on Nov. 1 at 2823 N. Glenstone Ave., in the former home of Old Route 66 Wellness LLC, which it purchased last year. The company also owns a manufacturing operation in Springfield in addition to its Humansville cultivation facility. Additionally, Flora Farms opened its newest dispensary on Nov. 7 in Joplin, according to officials. According to its website, its other stores are in Hollister, Humansville, Lee’s Summit, Ozark and Pineville, which is near the Missouri and Arkansas border.

My CPA Guy
My CPA Guy, a Highlandville-based certified public accounting business, launched a Queen City location on Nov. 4. Owner Nathan Ziegler, who started the company as a home-based venture in 2019, said the Springfield location at 1661 W. Elfindale St. fills 2,726 square feet. The office is in space formerly occupied by Vision Rehabilitation Center of the Ozarks, Ziegler said, adding he purchased the building earlier this year from the nonprofit. He estimated a $630,000 investment for the Springfield location, including the building’s purchase and renovation, which included new flooring, lighting and a roof. Ziegler, who earned his master’s in accountancy from Missouri State University in 2016, previously worked for nearly a decade in accounting at City Utilities of Springfield before turning his full-time professional attention in 2021 to My CPA Guy. He opened the Highlandville office in 2022, and it remains in operation. The firm was short on office space, which Ziegler said led to opening the Springfield location.
