ATA Martial Arts of Springfield LLC
Taekwondo gym ATA Martial Arts of Springfield LLC moved June 5 to 3536 E. Sunshine St., Ste. 136, from 4240 S. Fremont Ave. Attorney Will Worsham owns the studio, along with his wife Shelby Worsham and sister Sarah Worsham – all of whom are fourth-degree black belts and nationally certified instructors with the American Taekwondo Association. With nine instructors, including former owners Richard and Kelly Harmon, all but one teacher volunteers instruction time in exchange for membership. “We just do this for fun,” Will Worsham said. The Worshams first became students at the school 10 years ago and instructors two years later. They purchased the business for an undisclosed sum in May 2016. Worsham said the new site has larger workout areas. Property owner Fuldner Properties LLC paid for the remodeling of the interior.  Most class fees start at $115 per month, he said.

Metro Woman Magazine
Angela Frizell
took the reins of Metro Woman Magazine on June 12, in a sale of the 13-year-old home-based business from Audrey Hartman for an undisclosed sum. The magazine, freely distributed at 200 area locations, is licensed by Hidden Value, the publishing company that also produces Kids’ Directory and Fitness. Hartman began the advertising-funded, female-centered business directory as a monthly, 32-page publication, but Frizell said it later scaled down to 16 pages produced bimonthly. Frizell plans to build it back to 32 pages with monthly production by early 2018 and broaden its advertising and distribution reach to Branson. Frizell, who works in marketing at QPS Bio-Kinetic and as a freelance digital-marketing consultant, will design and distribute the magazine personally, with help from her husband, professional illustrator David Frizell. Angela Frizell launched a new website and will publish her first issue in September.

Orangetheory Fitness
Florida-based Orangetheory Fitness entered the Springfield market June 16 at 2862 S. Glenstone Ave., in Brentwood Center South. Former oil-and-gas engineer Chris Abbott organized Zone Fitness LLC to operate the franchise location. At Orangetheory, up to 26 clients rotate through treadmills, water rowers and resistance training for one hour, he said, while heart-rate monitors track performance on large screens. The business employs five teachers, five salespeople and one manager. More than 670 members joined before it opened, Abbott said. Listed prices online are $28 for a drop-in session to $500 for a 30-pack of the 60-minute sessions. Orangetheory charges a $40,000 franchise fee, Abbott said, as well as 7 percent royalties and a 1 percent advertising fee. He declined to disclose full startup costs but said franchisees typically invest $400,000-$700,000 upfront. Jared Enterprises is charging $19 per square foot for the 10-year lease, he said.
