Artist Showcase, an art gallery and custom framing shop, opened for business June 2 at 330 W. Pershing St. An artist herself, owner Angela Walker (pictured) is displaying local fine art in her frame shop, which offers custom framing, dry mounting, needlework mounting and museum-quality conservation mounting of collectibles. "The framing side is how I'm anticipating actually making money," Walker said. "The gallery side is the fun, the beauty, and brings a lot of foot traffic in." She is seeking pieces from local artists to display on a monthly basis. Walker said the gallery is booked through November. The gallery is a stop on the First Friday Gallery Walk. Walker said featured artists will be in-house to discuss their works. "I think that kind of gives a human aspect to it," she said. Artist Showcase is open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Paw Prints Day Care for Dogs opened April 15 at 75 Jagged Ridge, Shell Knob. Owners Bev Fencl and Pat Bingley have more than 25 years of veterinary experience. Bingley said the day care for dogs offers an alternative to a traditional kennel because dogs aren't put in cages or left alone. Facility accommodations include many windows, doggie doors, quiet corners for naps, toys and homemade treats, she added. Day care hours are 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Pick-up and delivery is available.
