Arnold Vision opened June 1 at 1011 E. Montclair as a partnership between Drs. Paul and Priscilla Arnold (pictured). The 10,500-square-foot-location splits its space with 6,000 square feet dedicated to clinical usage and 4,500 square feet for ambulatory surgery, such as cataract removal and laser surgeries. Construction costs for the facility ran about $2 million with the purchase price for the land running about $510,000, Paul Arnold said. In 1990, he built the Arnold Eye Care Center at 1265 E. Primrose and sold it in 1999 to Drs. Ken and Leo Neu, James Mattax and Tom Prater. Since that sale and due to a noncompete clause, Arnold took time off from his practice to travel and write a book. During his hiatus he penned a book called, "Common Cents," an overview about investing and personal finance management for doctors. Arnold Vision has 10 employees. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Disabled American Veterans Thrift Store No. 2 opened May 7 at 1749 S. Campbell in the former home of Auntie's Attic. The 7,000-square-foot store sells donated men's, women's and children's clothing in various sizes, as well as shoes, electronics, pictures, books and knickknacks, said Nikki Nelson, assistant manager. The store has six employees, she added. The DAV was founded after World War I and has its national headquarters in Cold Spring, Ky. It operates six stores in Missouri, said Joe Nelson, manager for Springfield's two stores. Joe Nelson didn't know leasing information or the cost of remodeling this store. Store hours are 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.
New York Pizzeria opened a 1,250-square-foot location June 4 at 3624 E. Sunshine with 13 employees. Pizza is the staple food, said Adrian Letsinger, marketing director. No alcohol is served, but delivery is available, she added. Both Springfield locations are owned by Paul and Kevin Barone; the store manager is Andre Andino. The Barones would not disclose any leasing information or remodeling costs. Hours of operation are 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The Barones also own New York Pizzeria at 2710 S. Campbell.
