William and Debra Brewster moved to Springfield and opened C-Tech Solutions, an engineering and surveying firm, Aug. 1 after 28 years in the field.

Coming from the 470-employee Wilson & Co. in Kansas City, where the Brewsters were partners, C-Tech Solutions is small, with just 15 employees. However, the Brewsters plan to double their leased space at 3315 E. Ridgeview, Ste. 2000, in the next 60 days from its current 1,800 square feet and hire 10 to 15 more workers.

In the Brewsters’ long-term plan, they’ve budgeted about $1.5 million to build a 10,000–15,000-square-foot building within three years, probably in southeast Springfield. Debra Brewster said C-Tech Solutions would employ around 100 people and expand the depth of its services once it moves into its new digs.

“We have very aggressive growth plans,” she said. “In the future, we will be going into design and build.”

C-Tech Solutions is open 6:30 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Kelly Luke on June 30 opened Art & Souls Gallery & Gifts LLC at 601 S. Pickwick Ave. The studio and gallery features handmade jewelry, photography, paintings and pottery from emerging local and regional artists. Product prices range from $20 to $600. Luke contributes to the pottery collection and holds pottery classes monthly.

Luke leases the space after relocating the business from her home. She previously worked in financing for Empire Bank and Great Southern Bank. Hours are 6–9 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Saturday, and 6–10 p.m. during First Friday Art Walks.

Pam Peine, a Springfield florist for 20 years, opened Pam’s Flowers in early April. Peine works alone from home in her climate-controlled garage and obtained no financing to start the business.

She hasn’t advertised, instead relying on word of mouth to keep her busy. She’s furnished flowers for several recent weddings and funerals, with wedding prices ranging from $80 to $5,000. Peine doesn’t accept foot traffic and has no set hours, though she generally works weekdays. She can be reached at (417) 887-6471.
