The Missouri branch of the Institute for Professional Empowerment Coaching Cen-ter, 1022 Roanoke in Marshfield and directed by Pat Childers, is open for business and is ac-cepting applications for its second training module, a two-day intensive weekend March 16-17. IPEC offers comprehensive, eight-month coaches' training with step-by-step, personalized instruction that ends with certification. The 300-hour program includes three three-day classroom modules, teleclasses and hands-on coaching experience. Childers and four others are the teachers in the Missouri location, she said. The institute was founded in 1999 by Bruce D. Schenider, PhD, author of "Relax, You're Already Perfect: 10 Spiritual Lessons to Remember." Our House Counseling Services, 725 W. Battlefield Road, directed by Rita Spilken, PsyD, LPC, relocated from Marshfield on Oct. 1, 2001. The business is housed in a newly remodeled professional medical clinic, Horizon Medical, which is owned and operated by family practitioner Maria Carter, MD. Ac-cording to a press release from Spilken, her new location allows for expanded emotional and mental therapy for children. The treatment room is decorated in a soothing yet playful jungle motif with stuffed lions, tigers and bears. As therapy tools, she offers computers with educational software, toys and games. She also works with abused adults. A 1997 Forest Institute graduate, Spilken is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing for survivors of trauma, such as police and firemen. She also holds a master's degree in counseling from New Paltz State University in New York.
