Open for Business

New York-based Steve & Barry’s University Sportswear opened for business Oct. 20 at Battlefield Mall, 2825 S. Glenstone, Ste. 360. Dave Atchison (pictured) is one of four managers at the 25,000-square-foot store, the publicly owned company’s second in Missouri, following a St. Louis opening. Atchison said the store sells “mainstream stuff” for all ages, including university logo wear, casual clothes, shoes and backpacks. Hours are 10 a.m.- 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon-6 p.m. Sunday.

Springfield Strapping & Packaging Inc. opened July 20 at 107 Fall Creek Road, Willard. Jason and Michele Wilkinson own the business, which sells steel and plastic strapping and packaging supplies. They employ one. Jason Wilkinson amassed nine years of experience in the packaging field before starting the home-based business. Wilkinson said he plans to open a storefront location. Clients include lumber and manufacturing businesses, which typically use the steel strapping for lumber or stretch wrap for boxes, Wilkinson said. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Branson has a new audio recording and production house. Citywalk Studios opened Aug. 1 at 1835 W. Hwy. 76, inside Branson’s Music City Centre. Owner Renae Peters said the 675-square-foot studio offers recording, mixing and editing services using the ProTools platform. Projects include demos, full tracks for shows, or audio for video, film and DVD recordings. Mark Owen has moved from Legends in Concert to work as Citywalk’s executive producer. Music City Centre, the former Kirkwood Theater that Peters has owned since 2000, features five shows, as well as La Quinta Inn, Dance Branson dance school, CityTrends clothing boutique and Starbucks. Citywalk Studios is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday; after-hours studio sessions are available, said Rae Owen, public relations director. “We’re expecting a lot of local musicians to be booking time after hours,” she said.

Doctors Hospital South opened Sept. 8 at 105 Ridgecrest Ave., Nixa. The Nixa location, the first expansion for the north Springfield-based, 45-bed Doctors Hospital, features an 8,700-square-foot family practice clinic with six medical staff: Drs. William Campbell, Randall Halley, Marsha Taylor and Lester Conduff, and nurse practitioners Annie Lee and Janice Jones. An urgent care center is scheduled to open there in early 2005. The clinic is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
