Deka Engineering opened Sept. 20 at 313 Park Central East, Ste. 203, in the Marx Building. Owners Anthony Starns and Scott Murphree-Roberts, both licensed professional engineers, lease about 900 square feet from Joe Bowman and Charlie Slavens of Marx Building LLC. Starns declined to share the lease amount or terms. Starns said that he and Murphree-Roberts each have about 15 years of experience in engineering, most recently with Scott Consulting Engineers. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Julie’s Chewies Too Sweets Antiques and Other Uniques opened Nov. 12 at 105 S. Main St. in Nixa. Owners LaVerne Cantrell and JoAnn Harrison, who also own Julie’s Chewies and Country Deli Cakes and Catering in Springfield, are renting the 1,500-square-foot space month-to-month for $360 per month from the McCroskey family of Nixa Hardware. Rebecca Garoutte is the manager and only full-time employee of the shop, which serves cookies, dessert bars, pies and cobblers prepared at the Springfield store. Hours are 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. Through Christmas, the store is open 1-5 p.m. Sunday.
Children’s Trading Co. relocated Nov. 22 to 1911 S. Glenstone Ave. in Plaza Towers Center. Owner Catherine Castillo started the business more than two years ago with locations in Buffalo and Fair Grove, but she consolidated her inventory and moved to 1840 N. Glenstone Ave. one year ago. She signed a three-year lease for an undisclosed amount for the 1,500-square-foot storefront. The store buys, sells and trades new and consignment children’s clothing, bedding, toys and furniture. Hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
