Insurance worker by day, mural artist by night, Marc Runner started Works of Marc LLC on July 14. Runner, a manager for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Missouri, is putting his artistic skills to use painting murals and traditional canvas paintings, usually for $350 to $600 each. Fire & Ice Restaurant & Bar opened Aug. 2 inside Oasis Inn & Convention Center, 2550 N. Glenstone Ave. The restaurant features an open-air kitchen and an 8-inch strip of ice down its 45-foot bar. Dinners are $8 to $36 and dry-aged steaks are a specialty, said Oasis Inn General Manager Kevin Klein. Kitchen manager is Wing Yee Leong, son of Springfield-style cashew chicken creator David Leong. Leong’s Tea House closed in 1997, but David Leong’s youngest son will cook cashew chicken at Fire & Ice on Wednesday nights. The restaurant is part of a three-year, $12 million Oasis Inn renovation that wrapped up July 1. Hours: 11 a.m.–midnight Monday through Saturday. Phone: (417) 522-7712.
A Perfect Studio
Chad Burk opened A Perfect Studio on May 13 at 210 S. Campbell Ave. The downtown business is a combination hair salon and photography studio. Haircuts start at $25, hair coloring starts at $40 and photo packages start at $150. Burk said salon-studio combo businesses are more common in other parts of the country.
