Springfield Brick Co. moved Aug. 1 to 3100 E. Division St. after operating for nine years at 4560 S. Campbell Ave., and manager Bob Veach said the move had been planned for years. Springfield Brick Co. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Joplin Building Material Co., founded in 1963. Springfield Brick opened in 1998 in 2,000 square feet of leased space that served as a retail showroom for the company’s three primary products: brick, stone and concrete blocks. Now, Springfield Brick is operating from a 6,000-square-foot building on three acres that it owns, allowing it to stock merchandise, Veach said. Hours: 7 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Alexander Open Systems
Alexander Open Systems relocated Oct. 4 to 636 W. Republic Road, Bldg. F, Ste. 100, in Corporate Village. Alexander Open Systems is an Overland Park, Kan.-based computer and phone networking company that has operated in Springfield since September 2006. Regional Manager Brad Ellingsworth said the branch has grown to nine employees from two. The company moved into the 2,200-square-foot space after working from 450 square feet of space at 1650 E. Battlefield Road. Alexander Open Systems, established in 1992, has 210 employees in 11 cities, including St. Louis and Columbia. Hours: 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Phone: (417) 888-2675.
Kohl’s
Kohl’s department store opened Oct. 3 at 1001 Branson Hills Parkway in Branson. The 68,000-square-foot store has 130 employees and carries clothing and household goods. Erick Byrd is manager for the Branson store, according to spokeswoman Courtney Rogaczewski. Menomonee Falls, Wis.-based Kohl’s Corp., founded in 1962, is a $15 billion, publicly traded (NYSE: KSS) chain with 915 stores in 47 states. Kohl’s is opening 95 stores this fall and has plans to operate 1,400 stores by 2012, Rogaczewski said. Hours: 8 a.m.–10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m.–8 p.m. Sunday. Phone: (417) 335-4330.
