Michael and Kristina Kyle moved fly-fishing shop Backcountry Outfitters on Jan. 12 to 2863 S. Campbell Ave. The store, established in 1992, exclusively sells fly-fishing equipment, such as rods, reels, insulated fishing apparel and fly boxes. Michael Kyle said they relocated the store from 1316 E. Battlefield Road for more room, higher visibility and lower lease payments. The new space adds 600 square feet, allowing for a more diversified inventory, Kyle said, while declining to disclose the lease rate. Backcountry Outfitters teaches free fly-tying classes on Saturday mornings, and staff conducts guided fishing trips throughout southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas. Smouse Financial Services
Ron Smouse opened Smouse Financial Services Inc. on Jan. 2 at 2520 N. Airport Plaza, Ste. C. Smouse and another licensed securities representative broker sales of mutual funds, variable annuities and other securities. They specialize in retirement planning, and Smouse provides individual tax accounting services as a complementary business, he said. Smouse graduated from Missouri State University with an accounting degree in 1972 and has been working in the financial industry ever since. He spent the last six years as a registered principal at Mid-Missouri Bank, where he led Mid-Missouri Investment Centers. Smouse also owned an accounting firm in Carroll, Iowa, for 10 years. Ambiance Full Service Salon
Rhonda and Ken Laub opened Ambiance Full Service Salon on Dec. 24 at 2047 S. Campbell Ave., Ste. B. Rhonda Laub has been a hair stylist for more than 20 years, and she’s the day-to-day operator of the salon. Four other stylists and a licensed massage therapist lease space in the salon. Services include hair cutting, coloring and styling as well as manicures and massages. Laub owned a salon in Mountain Grove for nine years, and she said she’s worked as a stylist in Texas and California.
