Springfield, MO
Howard LaFevers, franchise owner of Springfield’s first Rapid Refill, 4127 S. Kansas Expressway, Ste. 116 in Republic Plaza, opened his doors April 29. LeFevers discovered the ink jet and toner cartridge remanufacturing business while living in Southlake, Texas. LaFevers, who recently retired from a 31-year career with Dr Pepper, has Springfield roots. The six-year-old concept for Minneapolis-based Rapid Refill Corp. is based on the desire to keep the cartridges out of landfills, LaFevers noted, and the corporate culture is steeped in environmental friendliness. “Everything you see in our store from the carpet to the (product display) wall has a percentage of recycled materials,” LaFevers said, adding that his retail counter is made of crushed sunflower seeds. Rapid Refill is ranked No. 11 on Entrepreneur magazine’s 2008 New Franchise Concepts list. Hours: 9 a.m.–7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturday. Phone: (417) 882-4465.
