Ariel's Kinder Toys opened Sept. 19 at 5245 N. 17th St., in Ozark's Hopedale Plaza, directly behind Lambert's Restaurant. The shop sells books, toys and games for infants to young teens. "We are aiming for a complete stock of eco-friendly products that are made from wood and PVC-free plastic," says co-owner and sole employee Kathy Trumbley, who ran Ariel's Pottery Haus in Ozark before opening the toy store. "Kinder" is a German word that means "children." Co-owner Rachel McGinnis is an accountant at Missouri State University. Hours: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Phone: (417) 581-1709.

Bodhi Salon & Spa

Springfield-based Matt Miller Co. opened Bodhi Salon & Spa on Sept. 2 at 431 S. Jefferson Ave., Ste. 106, in Wilhoit Plaza. The business offers hair styling, nail and skin care, massage and instruction on energy healing. According to manager Lori Nickols, everything used in the salon, from paper towels to cleaning supplies, is recycled, and its skin-care products are organic. Hair clippings are sent to San Francisco-based recycler Matter of Trust where they are woven into mats used to absorb oil from the ocean when a spill occurs. The 5,000-square-foot Miller-owned space had been vacant for several years. Bodhi, a Buddhist term that means enlightenment, employs 36. Basic rates for a woman's haircut and style begin at $30, and men's rates start at $20. Hours: 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday. Phone: (417) 864-4399.

BK Architects LLC

Licensed architect Billy Kimmons started BK Architects LLC on Aug. 25 in his home office, 940 E. Stanford St. Kimmons, a 1999 Drury University graduate who received his architect's license in 2003, designs residential and commercial spaces, with a special focus on schools and churches. He says he is winding up work on the new worship center for Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Nixa. While Kimmons was with his former employer, Lohmeyer-Russell Architects, he handled the architectural work on the second phase of Parkview High School renovations.
